Artistry may not be one of the talents fancied in this part of the world, but there is no doubt that the country Ghana is so much blessed with a plethora of talents and more especially in the field of painting.

The country has produced some very contemporary and prolific artists in the field of painting who use unique and unconventional methods in their works.

Some of such great talents are Ibrahim Mahama, Paa Joe, Serge Attukwei Clottey, Zohra Opoku, and Adjo Kisser. The rest includes Latifah Idriss, Bright Ackwerh, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Ama “Poetra” Diaka, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, Worlasi, etc.

Although many more of such artists remain unheard, one particular painter who is currently making waves is Joseph Odoom, known in the arts as Kwesi Hero.

Kwesi Hero specializes in interior and exterior paintings, drywall cleaning and wallpaper installation. He offers other services such as commercial and residential painting, paint project management, real estate contracts, skimming, as well as any form of creative piece.

Kwesi Hero, who is from Adzintem, a small town in the Central region went into professional painting after completing Asamankese Senior High School where he studied Visual Arts in 2014. As a Junior High School graduate, he understudied a man who gave him some foundational lessons in painting whenever school is on break.

Currently residing in Nungua, a suburb of Accra, Kwesi aspires to build his paint house, Reliable Painting Service into a household name and to Empower the Girl Child through painting.

“I want to empower the girl child because here in Africa, particularly Ghana, most young girls have this perception that painting is for only men which is not. Girls can be better painters and it’s my aim to change that perception,” Kwesi Hero revealed.

Kwesi Hero currently coaches Gloria Edem Damalie, who studied Graphic Designing from the Takoradi Technical University. She is currently studying Building Technology and reading Advertising but has love for paper and wall painting.

Kwesi revealed that plans are underway to open the girls’ chapter of Reliable Painting Services by June 2020.

He has also handled most of Fadda Dickson and Kwame Despite’s work both in Accra and in Kumasi through Philip Brush
