I Sold Kenkey To Pay For My School Fees - CSP Kofi Sarpong

Growing up with a single mother, Kofi Sarpong disclosed he sold kenkey from Junior Secondary till he left Senior Secondary to be able to pay for his school fees.

The decision he revealed was due to financial difficulties in paying for school fees. His father, he explained had left home when he was in class three. He was left in the care of his single mother who was also taking care of other family kids out of her meager salary as a cook at the training college.

“My father left us when I was in class three. I never saw him again until I was in the “O” Level. My mum used to work at a training college as a cook. She was the only person taking care of us including other family kids,” he revealed.

Speaking on Rainbow Fm with Sokoo Hemaa, the African Borborbor hitmaker and Chief Superintendent of Police – CSP also mentioned how he had to stop school for more than 5 times. This situation pushed him into selling kenkey in other to be able to pay for his school fees.

“It got to a time that things became very difficult. I stopped schooling more than 5 times because there was no money for school fees,” he disclosed.

“Fortunately, they used to prepare Kenkey in the house we lived in. So, I decided to learn to prepare Kenkey and soup to sell in the morning before going to school. Because of that, I always received canes for turning up for school late because of the Kenkey business. This continued until I left for Secondary School,” CSP Kofi Sarpong said.


Even though his classmates, more especially the ladies do laugh at him whenever they meet him selling Kenkey, CSP Kofi Sarpong explained he never allowed that to discourage him.

The Chief Superintendent who through the challenges of having to live with family members and at a point ventured into selling snail due to financial difficulties enroll to be enlisted into the Ghana Police Service. He has also been ministering at churches until he was discovered by his talent manager, Kwasi Ernest of Excel Media.
