Stonebwoy Explains His Choice for Secular over Gospel Music

Stonebwoy has enumerated two (2) reasons that determined his choice for secular music over gospel despite growing up in a Christian home.

Speaking on the Y Lerderboard Series with Rev Erskine on YFM, the Ghanaian award-winning reggae-dancehall musician explained the need to survive and be free from the Christian box coupled with the feeling of having nothing to gain from the church.

“My father was going through a certain phase at that time and I was learning life from that so I was getting wiser. I just wanted to explore outside the Christian box and to feel a bit freer so I think that was what informed my step out,” he said.

Stonebwoy further added that the struggle to make life largely influence his decision and his path to the point that the church started to complain about his hairstyle – dreadlocks.

“I even had one Sunday school teacher that whenever I saw, I had to dodge because she would cry so much talking about how I’ve destroyed my life and how her son, may his soul rest in peace, also became an armed robber,” he added.

According to the musician, the struggle to survive made him a very stubborn boy but owes no one explanation except his mother who understood his new direction in life which most people around him never understood.
